Understanding the Logic of Climate Change Adaptation: Unpacking Barriers to Climate Change Adaptation by Smallholder Farmers in Chimanimani District, Zimbabwe

Smallholder farmers in Chimanimani District, Zimbabwe, have grappled for a long time with the effects of climate change despite locally and externally driven resilience-building initiatives place. This paper adopts qualitative approach to explore encountered adaptation barriers. farmers, Agricultural Technical Extension Services (AGRITEX) officers, traditional leadership fraternity were randomly selected from district’s 22 rural wards as study participants. Data solicited using focus group discussions face-to-face interviews that corroborated by researcher observation methods. The data analysed thematic content analysis key perspectives drawn smallholder leaders, extension officers who work farmers. What was unveiled is an assortment barrier dynamics related climate, finance, infrastructure, generational change, water resources, inefficient bureaucracy, gender inequality, health Vensim PLE 7.3 software used illustrate components they act together cripple farmers’ efforts raise their adaptive capacity. Adaptation barriers are complex and, therefore, cannot be addressed policies fragmented. recommends multidimensional policy makers analyse build more resilience within farmer communities.
